Dr Neil Hudson, Member of Parliament for Epping Forest, recently visited Epping St John’s School in Epping. The visit included a comprehensive tour of the school, a chat with the Head Boy and an in-depth Q&A session with the A-Level Government and Politics students.
During the tour, Dr Hudson was impressed with the school’s facilities and the learning environment fostered during lessons.
The highlight of the visit was the Q&A session, where students demonstrated their keen interest in politics and current affairs. Topics ranged from the Dr Hudson's personal political journey to significant national and international issues. Students also inquired about the parliamentary ratification of the Chagos Islands treaty and the implications of the recent US election, showcasing their awareness of global politics.
Also covered was knife crime, particularly among young people. Dr Hudson and the students discussed potential deterrents and the need for effective solutions to address this critical issue.
The conversation also touched on protecting the Green Belt and ensuring that the local housing need is built in suitable areas. Additionally, the students discussed the issues of the environment and food security, an issue of particular interest to Dr Hudson in his position as a Shadow DEFRA Minister.
