Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Epping Forest, recently welcomed Sixth Form students from West Hatch High School, Chigwell and prep school pupils from Chigwell School, Chigwell, to the Houses of Parliament for educational visits and engaging Q&A sessions. The visits, organised by Parliament’s Education and Engagement Team, are designed to support and encourage understanding of our Parliamentary democracy.
During the sessions, the students had the opportunity to directly engage with Dr Hudson and ask him about his role, his positions on current affairs and discuss issues important to young people in Epping Forest. During the morning session, pupils at West Hatch discussed issues ranging from youth mental health and Dr Hudson’s political journey and in the afternoon, Chigwell students focused their session on environmental concerns such as the impact of speeding on local wildlife and littering.
Speaking afterwords, Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Epping Forest said:
“It was great to meet such engaged pupils from both West Hatch High School and Chigwell School.
“I am always so impressed by the level of debate and engagement from schools across Epping Forest. Both groups asked such thought-provoking questions, and I am so pleased I was able to discuss issues which really affect young folk.”
Ms Elliott, Head of Government and Politics at West Hatch High School, said:
“The trip to Parliament was an amazing opportunity for the students to learn about the key elements of their A-Level course in real life.
“The access to experts, who were so willing to answer questions, allowed students to fully immerse themselves and gain valuable insights that will be vital for their studies.
“The students also thoroughly enjoyed the chance to ask their local MP some challenging questions on matters which they deeply care about. Overall, a fantastic experience.”
Mrs James, Acting Head of Years 5 and 6 at Chigwell School, said:
“The children from Chigwell School thoroughly enjoyed meeting Neil Hudson and expressing their views on changes that they would like in their local area.
“Neil was very receptive to their ideas and engaged positively with the children. The teachers felt that everyone gained a lot from the experience.”
