Member of Parliament for Epping Forest, Dr Neil Hudson, has visited The Theydon Oak Pub to discuss the current challenges facing the hospitality sector ahead of Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ forthcoming Autumn Budget, due to be announced on 26 November 2025.
During the visit, Dr Hudson met with the pub’s owner, Iain Moran, to discuss the key issues impacting local hospitality businesses, including Labour’s Jobs Tax, rising energy and food costs, and the continuing burden of business rates. The conversation also covered the importance of ensuring that Government policy supports small, independent businesses, which play a vital role in local economies and community life.
Since opening its doors in 2013, the Theydon Oak has become a well-established part of the Epping Forest community. Owned and managed by Iain and his wife Stacey, the family-run pub has built a strong reputation for quality food, warm hospitality, and community spirit.
Dr Hudson also mentioned the Theydon Oak when speaking in a Conservative-led debate on the Hospitality Sector in the House of Commons in September, where Dr Hudson drew attention to the impact on local pubs and restaurants in Epping Forest, warning that Labour’s taxation policies are harming communities as well as businesses:

“This a fantastic local business here in Epping Forest, and I and my family know firsthand what great food, drink and service they offer!”
“As we approach the Autumn Budget, it is vital that the Chancellor recognises the immense pressures facing the hospitality sector and takes action to ensure that valued local businesses can survive and thrive.”
“My Conservative colleagues and I will continue to stand up for small businesses and call on the Government to reverse damaging policies that threaten local jobs and livelihoods.”
Mr Iain Moran, owner of the Theydon Oak, said:
“It was great to meet Neil and speak about all the issues hospitality is facing, including VAT, Employer National Insurance rates, energy, business rates and much more.”
