Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Epping Forest, warmly welcomed Year 12 Law and Politics students from Epping St John’s School to Parliament this week.
The students began their day with a full tour of the Houses of Parliament, exploring the historic Palace of Westminster and learning about the legislative processes that form our democratic system. Following the tour, they participated in a workshop at Parliament’s Education Centre, where they were joined by Dr Hudson.
The Epping Forest MP discussed his responsibilities as both a constituency MP and as Shadow Defra Minister (including the urgent issue facing the UK with the Foot and Mouth Disease Outbreak in Germany, that Dr Hudson spoke on in the Chamber), offering students a behind-the-scenes insight to parliamentary work.
Dr Hudson then opened the floor to the students for a Q&A session to explore issues affecting young people both here in Epping Forest and nationally. Discussions ranged from youth mental health support, local transport challenges to policy issues such as the environment, vaping and smoking regulations.

“It was wonderful to meet such thoughtful and engaging young folk.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the honest and open discussions we had, particularly regarding mental health and improving the bus and tube services here in Epping Forest.
“Standing up for the mental health of people, young and old, is a huge focus for me. Additionally, improving access to transport is something I am working hard on, and I will continue to call on the Mayor of London for a better service here in Epping Forest.”
Ms Clo Daniels, Law teacher at Epping St John’s, added:
“The ESJ Law and Politics really enjoyed their trip to the Houses of Parliament and their talk with their local MP Neil.
“He was incredibly engaging and the whole visit really helped to bring the curriculum to life for them.”
