Standing up for the United Kingdom

A cross-party parliamentary inquiry begins today on the impact the government’s post-Brexit trade policy has had - and will have - on food producers, consumers and businesses in the UK.  

Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, again publicly pushed for the Borders Railway to be extended south to Carlisle via Longtown in Parliament this week, securing backing from Scotland Minister, John Lamont.

The highly pathogenic strain of Avian Influenza has been confirmed at a commercial poultry premises near Langwathby in Dr Neil Hudson MP’s Penrith and The Border constituency, meaning all poultry on the site will be culled humanely.

The Environment Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee has asked the new government to re-consider a “disappointing” response to its report on the impact of the Australian free trade agreement (FTA) on the UK food and agriculture sector.

In a bold and wide-ranging speech, Dr Neil Hudson again stood up for British farmers, urging the Government to renegotiate unfair trade deals with New Zealand and Australia.
