900,000 more households across England, Scotland and Wales will benefit from the government’s £400 help with energy bills, as the online application portal is now live. This applies to people who aren’t already receiving an automatic discount, such as: wholly or partially funded care home residents, homes on heat networks, residents of park homes, tenants in certain private and social rented homes and more.
Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, has consistently called for further support for his many rural constituents who disproportionately live in homes off the gas grid and have been impacted by inflated prices of heating oil and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), used to keep houses warm.
Most households in England, Scotland and Wales get a £400 discount on their energy bills automatically. The alternative funding route is designed to make sure the same level of support reaches those without a direct relationship to an electricity supplier. It’s also available for households who get their energy through a commercial contract or who are off-grid.
Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, said:
"With cold weather still with us, I am fully aware of how important this compassionate Government policy will be to the many people in rural Britain who warm their homes with alternative fuels like heating oil or LPG. As such I urge anyone eligible to apply as soon as possible.
"Being off grid and on heating oil at home myself in Cumbria and informed by the many fellow Cumbrians who have contacted me about their anxieties, I have consistently raised the issue of homes off the gas grid in the House of Commons and with Ministers, so this is an excellent step to make sure rural communities have the same energy security as the rest of the country."
